ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Republican United States Senate candidate Elizabeth Emken issued the following statement today as the U.S. gross national debt was set to surpass $16 trillion for the first time in the country’s history:

“This is another somber reminder of the failed leadership that has blithely put this nation on a clearly unsustainable path. Even more sobering for California taxpayers is the fact that Dianne Feinstein is responsible for almost $7 trillion of our nation’s record deficit since the last time she faced the voters.

“By approving this reckless spending spree and refusing to pass a budget for over three years, Feinstein has proven that we need a change in Washington, yet once again she will avoid giving voters the courtesy of a debate to explain why she deserves another six years.

“My career as a cost-cutting efficiency expert at IBM gives me the experience Californians are looking for to make government spending limited and accountable. My second career as an advocate for children with autism gives me an opportunity to make sensible fiscal decisions with a heart for the truly needy.

“It’s time to move past the failed policies of the past and bring a new voice and fresh energy to the U.S. Senate. I’m qualified, I’m ready, and I’m looking forward on Day One to begin cutting our nation’s deficit.”
